 What to Expect

Expect it to be easy and fun, and sometimes a little messy, and often emotional

We will sit and talk first and get comfortable with each other. I will make your kids laugh so that they can be themselves around me, too. After that, you can (and should) ignore me – and focus on spending a couple hours having fun with those you love. It’s a break in your day, when you get to focus on loved ones. And I get to focus on you.

How the Process Works

Use the contact form to get on my calendar. We will then brainstorm together and make some decisions. We’ll get the contract and deposit out of the way and finalize a date. After your session, we’ll meet again so that I can present a gallery of the shots that I think tell your story. You will choose the package that’s right for you and place your order. Don’t worry – I’ll be there to guide you through every step and send you reminders.

Where do I begin?

Tell me a little about yourself and your vision for the photoshoot. I’ll reach out to set the time for a phone call, so that we can discuss your ideas in detail. I make sure that you feel comfortable working with me and confident that we are a good fit.  We will then proceed to choosing the exact services you want.

What should I wear?

Wear what makes you comfortable. My focus as a documentarian is on your emotion and connection; clothing is secondary. If you’re nervous about it, keep it simple, or bring a few options (but try to avoid busy patterns). 

Can we change oufits?

I understand that what you wear is important. All sessions except for the 20-minute mini sessions can accommodate an outfit change, but please let me know in advance so that I create the time for these changes.

I wanted studio photos – can this be done safely these days?

Yes! We can take the photos at the studio. It is cleaned and sanitized between sessions, and we can keep the windows open.. I can bring my mobile studio to our outdoor location. I am fully vaccinated, with a mask and plenty of hand sanitizer.

How long does a session last?

A mini session is just 20 minutes. Most family sessions last a bit over 1 hour – after that, children and some spouses may get cranky. I set aside up to 3 hours for a newborn session, taking into account the unpredictable naps, feedings and diaper changes. An elopement session is up to 4 hours. For your big events – weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, anniversary parties – you should book me for the duration of the event, plus some.

What if the weather doesn’t cooperate

I’ve got one eye on the weather forecast, but just in case, we will discuss a back-up “rain date” when you book the session. A few drops won’t stop us -- the lighting on a rainy day might even make the photos more interesting. If it rains or snows, we will reschedule. 

What if the kids are sick?

Little kids can be as unpredictable as the weather sometimes -- you can’t always anticipate a tantrum or a cold. That’s okay. We can reschedule, but please notify me at least 24 hours before our session. 

Can we take photos at different locations?

Yes. Location may be an integral part of your vision. We can do a couple locations, as long as we can fit into the allotted time. 

 

Do you travel?

Yes -- I travel to all five boroughs of New York City. For travel to remote locations for events, additional charges may apply.

What happens after the photo shoot?

I get to work processing your photos, selecting the ones that will best tell your story. I know you want to see the photos right away, so please rest assured that I am on it, working with the love, care and attention your photos deserve.

What is the turnaround time for our photos?

You want your photos as soon as possible -- trust me, I get it. I will send you a couple of sneak-peak photos soon after the session. 

  • Headshots: people can choose the shot they like most the day of the shoot,  files will be uploaded within 48 hours, and you can view them the same day

  • Events: I understand your urgency, which is why I aim to have the photos ready in one week.

  • Family sessions: I want you to enjoy your photos for a lifetime, and that is why I ask for two weeks to process the images carefully. 

  • Weddings: please allow for up to two months so that I can tell your story in an unforgettable way that is uniquely you.

 Please allow a little more time for products like albums, which need a little more care and design.

How do I choose the photos I want?

First, I carefully sieve through all the raw material, select the photos that, in my professional opinion, are perfect for your vision , and processed the files. I then upload these photos to a gallery and send you the link. It’s super important that you review the gallery and make your choices quickly, because you only have access to it for 1 week.

How will I get all the digital images?

All digital images are included with all of the packages I offer. If you booked a session without a package, you have a couple of options: you can purchase 1, 10, 20 or all digital files as a la carte items. Also, I include digital files (with resolution that works well for 4x6 prints and web) with any large print (11”x14” and larger).

How you get the files is up to you -- I can provide a flash drive or an online gathery where you can download photos in high or low/web resolution.

How long do you store the digital files?

One week. After that week, your gallery will be taken down. Please set some time aside to review your photos and think about the products you want -- prints, digital files, holiday cards, albums or canvas prints. Share your gallery with loved ones and get their input if you want. If you already know what you want, let me know right away, without waiting for our ordering session. And be ready to place your final orders when we meet.

All this said, I realize that you might change your mind, which is why I keep your digital files for a few months. Please note that uploading the gallery again and going through the ordering process will incur additional fees.

How do I order an album or prints?

Talk to your loved ones and decide on what will bring the most joy to you, and then tell me at our ordering appointment. Feel free to ask me for my input in decorating wall space with the canvases from our photo shoot. Your experience should be complete, starting with your vision and ending with a tangible object such as a physical photo album, a keepsake box or a canvas.
